1. Disable Search Indexing.

If you are performing searches once in a blue moon then it would be better to keep this feature disabled. 

  • First of all click Start, type services.msc and press Enter.
  • This will open Services dialogue box.
  • Now locate the Windows Search service in the list of services, right click it and choose  Properties.
  • In the start up type drop down box, choose the Disabled option.

2. Remove Unwanted Start up Programs.


For disabling unwanted programs from running on start up.

  • click Start. 
  • then type msconfig and hit Enter. 
  • Now in the System Configuration window, go to the start up tab.
  • unchecked the programs that you don’t want to run upon start up.

3. Disable Aero.

If you are running a slow computer or your system is running some resource hungry applications, then it would be better if you keep this feature disabled.

  • Click Start .
  • Control Panel to open the Windows 7 Control Panel, 
  • Now from the View by drop down box, choose Large icons.
  • Now choose Ease of Access Center.
  • Click Make it easier to focus on tasks link located in almost the bottom of the Ease of Access Center.
  • Check Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen to disable the Aero Snap feature. You can uncheck it to enable it again.
  • Click Apply to finish the configuration, Enjoy!

4. Turn Off System Sounds.


  • Click Start.
  • Then type mmsys.cpl and hit Enter. 
  • Now disable the sounds you don’t need from this dialogue box.

5. Remove Unwanted Fonts.


  • Click Control Panel.
  • See Appearance and Personalization ,see Fonts, 
  • Then select the font and hit Delete.

6. Optimize Application Launching Time.

This can be done by setting the values of EnablePrefetcher and EnableSuperfetch parameters to 1.

  • open the registry editor.
  • navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Memory Management \ PrefetchParameter option in the left sidebar, 
  • here you will be able to see these parameters in the right side bar.

7. Always Keep The Latest Device Drivers.

  • In the Applications tab right-click the application who’s process priority needs to be changed, 
  • choose the Go to Process option from the context menu that appears.
  • Now right-click a process and select the Set Priority option.
  • choose the desired priority, you can choose from Real-time, High, Above Normal, Normal, Below Normal, and Low.
  • confirm the priority change.

10. Defragment Your Disks Regularly.


  • Start >All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defregmenter.
  • click Defragment Disk, enjoy!

11. Find Bottlenecks.

Resource Monitor lets you keep an eye on CPU, Memory, Network status and Disks status of your system.

  • Click Start Orb, type resmon in Start Search and press enter.
  • On the main window you will be greeted by the Overview tab.
  • Get an overview of the resource consumption. CPU, Disk, Network, and Memory are all there.
  • Dig deeper and search for Associated Handles and Modules.

12. Switch Off Unwanted Windows Features

Windows Features offers a great way to enable/disable specific Windows features.
